Dover-Foxcroft, Maine — February 12, 2025 — The Piscataquis Regional Food Center (PRFC) is thrilled to announce the success of its inaugural Cold Hands & Warm Hearts Luncheon, held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Central Hall Commons. This heartwarming event brought together community members in support of PRFC’s mission to combat hunger in the Maine Highlands region, while also celebrating the contributions of 2025 Hunger Hero, Sue Mackey Andrews.

Attendees gathered for a delicious meal in the spirit of making a difference for local families in need. The event raised over $12,000, critical funds to support PRFC’s food distribution programs and community initiatives that address food insecurity in rural Maine.

A highlight of the luncheon was the recognition of Sue Mackey Andrews, a tireless advocate for food security and community well-being. “Sue’s dedication to addressing hunger and her unwavering commitment to the people of our region embodies the very spirit of this event,” said Kelly Sirimoglu, PRFC’s Executive Director. “We are honored to recognize her as our 2025 Hunger Hero.”

In addition to ticket sales and generous donations, attendees showed their support by bringing cans of soup and new winter accessories—hats, mittens, and gloves—to be distributed to PRFC shoppers. These contributions will help keep local families warm and nourished during the harshest months of the year.

PRFC extends its deepest gratitude to all who attended, donated, and volunteered to make this event a success. Special thanks go to event sponsors: Camden National Bank, Central Maine Smiles, the Commons Collective, The Maine Democratic Party Piscataquis County, The Maine Credit Union League, Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union, The Mill Café, Penquis, Northern Light Mayo Hospital and Hospital Medical Staff, Pleasant River Lumber, and Puritan.
