Interview with Karen King, Operations Manager DFAFC

Dover Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard: feeding people, building relationships

Did you hear the news? The Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard is changing their distribution times?

Starting February 8th, 2019, the cupboards hours are going to be FRIDAYS from 9am to noon, then 1pm to 3pm, on the 2nd and 4th FRIDAYS of the month. Let's talk to Operations Manager, Karen King, about the time change.

Q: Hi Karen! Can you tell us why the food cupboard hours have changed?

A: We decided to change the days and times of the food cupboard for several reasons:

-To lessen the wait for our customers, -To be able to feed more people in need, and -To help distribute and make the work load our volunteers put in a little easier.

Q: What would you like people to know about the food cupboard?

A: We would like everyone to know we LOVE what we do! We love to SERVE our customers and the community! Our volunteers do not get paid; they help us because they want to help people. Our goal is to equally distribute to everyone. It's important for people to know WE WILL NOT RUN OUT OF FOOD, whether you are first in line or the very last. Everyone gets the same amount of good food and the same choices. Everyone is welcome, and greeted with dignity and a smile.

Q: How can we as a community help?

A: Most people don't realize that the food cupboard can order food from Good Shepard Food Bank for pennies on the dollar. Your cash donations can stretch much farther than you realize! Holding a food drive or donating money are 2 good ways community members can help support us and the work we do.
